Closed sinus lift technique: Use graft or No Graft......What do you do in you practice?
Thu, 04/01/2010 - 23:35 — K.SACHDEV
I been reading many articles as of late. 50% of the articles show implant placement without graft material in the sinus utilizing a closed sinus lift and 50% of the articles show closed sinus lifts with grafts material.
Which do you prefer? Why choose graft vs no graft in a closed sinus lift? What has a greater success rate?
Opinions and experience wanted.

THANK YOU MANY, MANY TIMES
Graft in the sinus- always use graft
I always use graft in the sinus. Its predictable. I am not sure the benefit of tenting up the sinus with no graft and implant. I like to see long term studies.
Sinus grafting: why wouldnt you use graft
Most studies support the use of graft within the sinus. I havent seen one say they graft is no good. To me it holds up the membrane and coverts to bone. Dont see why you wouldnt use graft.
sinus grafting with/without bone graft
Bone substitutes are not a prerequisite for sinus augmentaion when implants are placed simultaneously
Please read Lundgren's article (2004) and Sohn's article (2008) and other's articles.
No bone added sinus augmentation is free from postop.infection and the risk of cross contamination if patient considers thosse.
Much higher new bone formation will be gained compared to bio-oss grafted sinus augmentaion.

Sinus grafting with or without graft: My opinion
In my opinion I dont see the harm in using a graft, there are plenty of studies to demonstrate success and I dont see infections from use of graft material.
Cross contamination is a non-issue. Read Mellonig.

Immediate Molar Implant Placement With Superwide Diameter Implant (6-8mm in diameter)
CE Credits: 1
Salvation of failing molars are now a clinical dilemma due to cost and predictability. Therefore most dental clinicians prefer extraction, healing, than placing of the implant. However, this often involves socket preservation and delayed approach due to technical difficulties in placement of an implant at the septum of the molar extraction site. Dr. Lee will present a new techique utilizing a trephine to collect autogenous bone, and placement of a superwide implant 6-8mm in diameter to fill up the extraction site. Attendees will have clear understanding of this new technique and indications.
DentalXp offers this webinar to an exclusive amount of attendees, make sure you register on-time!
Limited to the first 200 registrants.
