Extraction and Sinus lifting at the same time? Can this be done or should I avoid
Thu, 07/01/2010 - 05:44 — dfeinerman
I have a patient with a nonrestorable tooth #14. After extraction there will not be enough bone for implant placement but I would like to bang up the septum and do my sinus lift at the time of extraction in order to have my site prepped for the implant in 3-4 months.
Is it possible to do the extraction, and the sinus lift using summers FT technique all at the same time?
Does anyone do the future site technique anymore?
I think this would allow me to avoid doing a lateral window and speed along the case.

Extraction and sinus lifting at the same time
Your proposal of banging the septum and elevating the sinus is not in favor for patient's morbidity.
With the minimally invasive techniques we have today such as the balloon sinus elevation the procedure can be done in a one stage including implant placement.
If you don't feel comfortable doing it in one shot go for a two step approach by doing a balloon on the second stage. No lateral window is required...
Summers future site technique over the balloom
Ziv I love you passion for the balloon but the summers future site technique is time tested.
I have tapped up the septum and did a closed sinus lift during an extraction in an attempt to prepare the future site for an implant.
It worked for summers and it works for me :)

Summers Vs Balloon
Lauren,
I don't think that by doing summers technique you can elevate a 3mm up to 13mm while with the balloon it is predictable.
As for time- the Miambe balloon has already 6 years of experience.
sinus lift at time of extractionof molar
I would and have extracted and performed an uplift with graft and membrane. This does yield a very nice site for placement of a root form without performing a sinus lift (lateral or sommers)!
Extraction and Sinus lifting at the same time
Ziv the point isnt on the balloon, the point is can you do sinus site development at the same time as taking out the tooth to speed along the case.
In my experience I have been able to extract and do a closed sinus lift to develop the sinus floor to a level that is needed to place an implant after 3-4 months of healing.
By doing the sinus lift at the same time it saves the patient time and an additional surgery.
Summers for future site development.
An osteotome lift is a safe procedure that has been done for years.
I will frequently site develop in the area of the maxillary molars in an attempt to avoid another surgical procedure.
Extraction and Sinus lifting at the same time: Avoid
To me this increase your chance of perforating the membrane. Why not just do a socket graft and lift at the time of implant placement. Much less ricks of perforating the sinus membrane.

Extraction and Sinus lifting at the same time: Avoid
To me this increase your chance of perforating the membrane. Why not just do a socket graft and lift at the time of implant placement. Much less ricks of perforating the sinus membrane. There is a reason people are not doing the summers FS technique. To many complications.

Extraction and Sinus lifting at the same time
Extraction and Sinus lifting at the same time. Why is this a problem. Its developing the site. If I have a clean non infected site I will extract and graft and try to elevate the sinus. I usually cover with a Non expanded PTFE membrane because it usually is difficult to get closure.
Why is the not recommended? Proper case selection it works and saves the patient a surgery.
Sinus lifting: 1 miracle at a time
I think you should take the tooth out and graft. Why do the sinus lift at the same time. Too much risk. Better to let heal and come back and do the sinus lift later then risk a sinus infection.
Extract and Sinus lift at the same time.
Dont do it. Graft the socket and come back and do the sinus lift. You are setting yourself up for complications.
