Istvan A. Hargitai, DDS, MS

Commander Hargitai currently serves as Division Head, Orofacial Pain and Oral Medicine, Department of Dentistry, U.S. Naval Hospital Naples, Italy. Originally from Cleveland, OH, he attended Cleveland State University leading to a Bachelor of Science. He received his DDS in 1996 from Case Western Reserve University and was commissioned as a Lieutenant. His first assignment was at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton as a General Practice Resident. His next assignment was assistant dental officer, 3rd Dental Battalion Okinawa from 1997-2000. In 2002 he completed training in Oral Medicine, and in 2004 completed training in Orofacial Pain, both at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, MD while receiving a Master of Science from the George Washington University. He then served as Department Head for Dentistry at Naval Hospital Yokosuka, Japan from 2004-2007.

Dr. Hargitai is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine. He has seven publications to his credit in journals, books, and monographs. His academic interest is the study of disturbed physiology that accompanies chronic pain syndromes and developing treatment modalities that address those disturbances.
