Implant Complication Issue: Should I remove or hold the course????
Wed, 05/05/2010 - 21:59 — nel113
I recently placed an implant into good bone. There is good BIC and good primary stability. The only problem is the angulation on how it was placed. It it in close proximity to an adjacent live tooth, about .5mm distance between the tooth and implant.
What could and will happen to the implant and/or to the natural healthy tooth? Should I take it out? Thank you!

Implant Complication: Take it out
If it wasnt placed to long ago you could probably take it out by reverse torque. Why risk problems when you can regraft the site and come back and place the implant in a better position.

Remove the implant, graft and delay new placement 3 months.

Why settle for inferior results.
Implant complication: Xray error.
You may not be as close as you think. Change the angulation of your film. I been burned before where I thought I was on top of a tooth, but after reangulating the xray I was no where near the tooth.
Implant complication issue
As others have indicated best to remove it before it integrates. Now you should be able to counter rotate it and then pack the site with a graft and go back in 6-8 weeks. These issues can be avoided (or greatly minimized) when using a surgical stent and after doign the pilot drill place the drill in the site and take an x-ray to check the trajectory. If it needs to be altered the hole is so small it wont affect the final result. And as indicated angulation of the radiograph tells more at some angles then others
