Metronidazole or any other antibiotics mixed with your graft material: Does it enhance osseous regeneration results and minimize infections? Why do it at all?
Sun, 04/25/2010 - 02:53 — tamada
I have read a variety of articles about mixing antibiotics with your graft material for sinus and GBR grafting.
Is it more successful then no antibiotics, does it enhance results and minimize infections? What is your protocol? Why do it? What are the inidcations? Does it make a difference? What are the downside risks?
Where can we buy 0.5% metronidazole IV solution for reconstituting the grafting material for sinus lift in US?

Mixing antibiotics with your bone graft works well.
I mix Metronizdazole with my graft. I use FDBA and Calcium sulfate. I use it in extraction sockets and GBR and feel it makes a difference.
I also started using it in my sinus grafts and feel 4 months post op my grafts are more consolidated.
Metronidazole
G'day mates,
My colleague makes up syringes from an I.V bag solution of Metronidazole BP 500mg/100ml bought from a local pharmacy.
Cheers,

Metronidazole IV Bags: I agree with Eugene
This is exactly what I do I just draw from an IV bag into a syringe and mix with my bone graft.
I definetly see a difference in healing with my grafts since I started added antibiotic to it.

I been mixing Metronidazole within my grafts for sinus lifts and find 4 months healing the grafts are more consolidated.
There are several articles out there to support this concept.
