Periodontology Question: Are there protocols for enhancing the soft tissue character and quality around implants?
Fri, 10/08/2010 - 15:26 — aya ali
i wanna ask some questions about plastic surgery around dental implants :
1) Are there rules or protocols of optimizing the soft tissues buccal to the dental implant is it important whether there is soft tissue defect buccally or not ?
2) How can I estimate that this area need soft tissue augmentation in cases of mild defects ?
3)What is the acceptable width of keratinized tissue around dental implant beyond which the gingiva must be harvested ?
4) Does this width differs in anterior implants from posterior implants ?
5) Finnally, is kertinized or attached ginigiva needed for the long term health of the implant?
Thank you

Soft tissue Protocol around implants
To me you need KG/AT around implants. You need to enhance at all costs to maintain the long term health. I like to have at least 2-3mm of KG around an implant.
I usually use a CTG to enhance the soft tissue biotype.
soft tissue character around implants
the best way to enhance the soft tissue around implants is to make sure that there is sufficient quantity and appropriate width of keratinized before implant placement. that way, the plastic surgery in the area is so much easier. of additional consideration the the quality of the bone in the recipient site before placement. once these parameters are satisfied implant placement is assured of favorable success.
Soft tissue around Implants: Gum Cutter right on the money
I always do CTG when doing an implant to improve the soft tissue character.
Dynamatrix
Dynamatrix membrane can be used around an implant now that the studies show it remodels tissue. You can also leave it exposed.
