Piezosurgery: What and where are people using it for? Has it changed your practice?
Tue, 01/05/2010 - 09:45 — DrChevy
Piezosurgery seemed to have changed the way we are practicing. However, I think my counterparts have passed me by. I am strictly using it for Sinus lifts where it makes a huge difference in reducing Sinus Complications.
My counterparts use it in every aspect of surgery. I am not that confident in it? What and where are people using piezo in daily practice? Do you see a difference to your surgery or practice?
Thank you for reading

Piezosurgey; Uses and techniques
It definitely has changed my practice for the better. I use it for extractions, sinus lifts and bone harvesting. Definitely see improved healing due to less surgical trauma.
Piezo applications
I bought a little Osada unit and it does the job. I love it for extractions. I for sure see a difference with my extractions as I have to remove far less bone when removing a tooth in those difficult extraction cases.
Piezo applications
I use ultrasonic surgery since 9 years now and it changed my entire oral surgery. Tooth extractions, bone blocks, bone splitting, tunnel technique, apicoectomia...and most of it: the intralift, an ultrasonic driven minimal invasive crestal sinus lift procedure. I don´t have patients with swelling due to sinus grafting and the analgetics use is close to 0.
To reduce the trauma in oral surgery piezo is compulsory for every modern dentist with a minimal invasive approach. for more infos check www.iausi.org
Mectron Piezosurgery for extractions, sinus, ridge splits etc
I have been using the the Mectron unit for over a year. I use it in many different aspects of my practice. I use it for Sinus lifts closed and open, bone particulate harvesting, ridge splitting and extractions.
I think it has improved my overall sinus surgery in terms of less complications, and made extractions easier. Not sure if it enhanced the rest.
Piezosugery has changed my practice for the better.
I basically use it for everything: Sinus surgery, extractions, gbr grafting, etc. It definitely has improved my surgery and lowered complications.
One area where it definitely helps is removing a failed implant. I dont use a trephine anymore.
Great Presentation on Piezosurgery and new techniques
If you're interested in seeing a great presentation on internal and lateral sinus lifts and implant osteotomes created by the piezo device by the creator of this technology, Dr. Vercellotti take a look at;

Wow what a awesome site.
Very cool site, I like the video content.
Dental XP and gIDE sites are very good pay sites
Both Dental XP and gIDE are great sites with video content for implant surgery, soft tissue surgery, etc.
I am members of both and I like them both. Both have some cost associated with them to join, but are well worth it in my opinion.
