PRP, PRF, CGF or PRGF: What we know, what we think we know and what we dont know?
Mon, 10/11/2010 - 10:18 — dr.yashpal_84
First off what is working time for platlet rich plasma, prgf and prf? Can we store or freeze these for later use?
Is there a place for any or all these? I see orthopedics still using prp on atheletes like tiger woods and others to heal injuries.
Is there one that is a benefit to all patients? Or are they all just smoke and mirrors?
Opinions needed and wanted?

PRP: I still use it to enhance wound healing
I am still using PRP. Mostly for intial wound healing. I think it does butkiss for bone but it enhances my soft tissue healing which to me is the most important for my augmentations procedures. The PRP helps reduce flap opening, which is the major battle in my mind especially if you are considering using ti-mesh.

PRGF used on Rafael Nadal knees....
PRGF or PRF a big improvement from PRP in my cases.
By the way, PRGF used on Rafael Nadal's knees before French and US Tennis Open and he won both events after a year of severe knee problems???? Interesting.

Tiger Woods Got PRP so there LOL
Orthopedic community still favors PRP. Here are a number of people that recieved the treatment. Nice to see PRGF making a play.

Rafael Nadal PRGF vs. Tiger Woods PRP?? Which would u choose?
Tim;
Are you sure that you want to compare what both athletes did after their respective treatments???
Tiger hasn't won a single tournament since and had dropped in the rankings, no longer #1 in the world of golf?? The doctor that treated him was a Canadian Family doctor who is NOT an orthopaedic Surgeon but self specialized in sports.
Nadal has one 3 successive majors and is #1 in the World of Tennis. His treating surgeon is a spanish Orthopaedic Surgeon.
I like the later!
Not only what each of them
Not only what each of them achieved in terms of victories after their respective treatments, but also the type of sport they were practicing!
I am a keen golfer and tennis player, but it is fair to state that the later is much more physically demanding than the first.....
I have limited experience with PRP, but we have been using PRGF routinely in our practice for over 10 years. I have no doubts on it's positive effects on wound healing.

Tiger Woods Problem isnt PRP
Maurice I like the way you think. I think Tigers problem isnt the PRP I think its keeping his mind on the course instead of in the bedroom.
I think the major point here is that a platelet concentrate no matter what you use "may" have benefits to the wound healing process.
I think it can be debated on which one is the best.
PRF PRGF CGF OR PRP: If you had to choose?
PRF PRGF CGF OR PRP: If you had to choose which one would it be. There are people reading these blogs who havent purchased a unit/technique.
For those out there that dont know. Can you share your opinion of what to use and why?
Using a technique with
Using a technique with success doesn't mean that this technique is the best.
Using growth factors in healing is like salt on a hamburger: the effect is guaranteed.
In medicine, we are only interested by indications. And each product has, certainly specific indications.
My opinion is scientifically definitely installed: we need cells in the growth factors preparations: circulating white cells and circulating mesenchymal cells. The answer to the forum question is in this field. We must remember that the only growth factors activity is: cell stimulation.
The debate is open.
The Twin Implant
The "Twin Implant" is not a new subperiosteal implant. Dr. Leonard I. Linkow and I am sure others were as well, doing these in the 1970's to the 1990's. I give Drs. A. DiGiulio, G. DiGiulio and E. Gallucci credit for a nice paper and cases but the true credit has to go to Dr. Leonard I. Linkow, my mentor.
What are the real benefits of PRF, PRP or PRGF?
