Balloon Sinus lift: Is it better for protecting Sinus tears
Sat, 09/26/2009 - 06:05 — DrTimberlake
I been reading recently of a new balloon sinus lift procedure that reduces sinus lift tears. Has anyone used this new technique and does it work as well as advertised? Anyone know where to buy the balloon kits? Chow XOXO
Dear Friends
Thanks for your patience. We have finally set up the date for the minimally invasive balloon sinus elevation course. It will take place on April 11th at the DoubleTree hotel Times Square NYC.
Additinal info will be published in the Feb issue of JIACD. You can get details by contacting my email:drmazor@netvision.net.il.
The course will include hands-on.It will be delivered by myself and Dr Robert Horowitz.
West coast guys- I will be presenting the balloon during my talk at the USC perio and implant symposium in two weeks(Jan29-30).
I have used latex balloons before and while they work well, there are some issues.
The issues I have seen is incomplete lifts, I have done scans on people who have done balloon lifts and there is always incomplete lift of the medial wall. So you get half a sinus lift.
Not sure if the silicon balloon makes a difference there.
There is no doubt that the direction is moving into closed balloon technique replacing lateral approach.
Unfortunately not all balloons are alike.Having an experience in most of the balloons I can make a statement that the best is the MIAMBE-minimal invasive antral balloon elevation kit.
I have used this device for the past 10 months with amazing results. The two major advantages of this system are the silicone balloon(as opposed to latex) which is harbored in a metal sleeve and the inflating device which gives the operator full control of the pressure and instant monitoring of the elevated sinus membrane.
In next issue of JIACD there will be an article descibing the technique.
Hands on live surgery courses incorporating the balloon are given in the university of Belgrade. Info can be found in www.handsoncourse.com
