Anyone using the biolase. My friend just bought one and he uses it for everything. I been to a couple of lectures by Dr. Nurin in MD. I seen some of his cases and its pretty awesome.
I have not used laser, but am thinking about getting one. Do people here feel that they are worth the money? Sometimes it seems that people use them more as an advertising tool than a clinical tool.
I have been using a laser (BIOLASE) since 1989 (first Nd-YAG, then Erbium) and can't see practicing without it. I use it for everything. Crown troughing, Class V's, esthetic gingivectomies for veneers, desensitizing and some hemostasis. Those alone make it worth it to me, but I've done frenectomies, and small fillings and lots of other procedures that make it worth it to me.
I will always practice with it.
Do you find little need for local when using it? Also, I had observed some lasers with YAG and they have a significant sound associated with on mode. Do you find that a problem?
I have used a laser for some years now. I always use local. Most of my patients wear a music head set so its a non issue. Sound is usually not an issue.
Biolase offers some nice training courses. There are some Dentist on th east coast that will allow one to observe in their office. Dr. Bensky in NY, Dr Nurin in MD and one in Florida that the name escapes me at the moment.
I cant really adequately comment because I havent spent the big dollars on a laser. I feel I can save myself money and get the same results as a laser with a 5cent 15c or even an electrosurge unit.
I have heard Dr. Nurin speak and he gets impressive results. I would love to hear comments from people who own the laser to get an adequate read.
He is the Dean of the Perio dept. at Univ of Colorado he has not picked up a blade for the treatment of inflammatory periodontal disease in over 4 years.
Lasers on E-Bay
Before putting up over $80,000 on a laser you may want to check E-Bay and ask yourself
"Why are there so many $80K machines on there for less than $10K?"
Laser - Worth the cost?

Opinions appreciated. Thanks.
You'd have to pry my laser out of my hands...
