Flap Versus Flapless Implant Placement: Recommendations?
Sat, 07/24/2010 - 16:06 — LaurenJones
I have been placing my own implants for about 7 years. I am just learning how to use Cone beamt ct scans to plan the placement of implants. I use a surgical guide stent and I lay a Full Thickness or Partial Thickness Flap for all my cases, depending on the nature of the placement and surgery. Some of the specialists are doing flapless surgical placement. This seems to result in less trauma and more rapid healing. Anyone doing implants flapless? How reliable is this method? I am worried about not being able to see and the bone. Opinions needed? Lauren?

Flapless implant placement: I dont see the value
I myself like to see the bone. There are many pitfalls, undercuts, quality, defects, etc. I recommend you elevate a flap. Unless you have a cone beam ct and you have a mile of bone, no value in flapless.
Flapless implants...I have seen more complications from this.
There is no reason to do implants flapless. You are asking for trouble. I seen implants placed through the lingual plate, into an adjacent tooth or into the sinus because of flapless.
See the bone and be the bone I say.
