Immediate implants: Graft or not to graft
Sat, 06/20/2009 - 14:56 — Dr. Pratt
I been placing some immediate implants and have read that the gap between the implant and native bone will fill in, but some of my friends tell me I should graft. Any protocols in determining when you should graft or not graft post immediate placement?

Immediate implant gap distance
I try and place graft no matter what the distance is. I too like Richard place graft material during prep. When I place the implant there is no space to fill.
Immediate placement and grafting!
I usually prep the socket and start the osteotomy. I will go up two to three spade drills, stop and place the graft material then place the implant. I have had problems by not placing graft material.
Gap Distance for immediates.
If I can fit graft down there I will. Even with 2 mm or less, I worry about in not filling in and getting recession. Graft if you can.
Gap Distance and grafting
General rule I use less the 2mm dont graft
More then 2 mm graft.
I use a mineralized product such as puros.
