Implant healing abutment fused to implant? Any tricks for removal?
Tue, 02/09/2010 - 12:28 — Tim Grant
A restorative dentist I work with is trying to restore and implant he placed. He says the healing abutment want come out. He sent it over to me and it wont budge. I tried everything. 1) How can this happen? 2) I dont want to remove the implant. Anyone have any idea on how to remove? Its like its welded in there. Thanks, Tim

Abutment fused to implant? Is that possible?
I am no metallurgist, but I don't know if that is even possible for metal to fuse to itself in the mouth. There is no heat involved to join the metals. A cold weld perhaps with the pressure?
I have had a few abutments that did not want to come out. Simply use a prosth restorative kit torque to remove the abutment. Easy. I have done this many times.
Implant healing abutment fused to implant? Help Please?
I once stripped out the implant and had to ultimately remove it. It was horrible for me and the patient.

Implant healing abutment fused to implant? Any tricks?
I had this happen to me. The surgeon had to buy a special kit for the implant company to retap/rethread the implant.
