Implants in the irradiated patients: What is the treatment protocol
Sat, 07/24/2010 - 16:09 — LaurenJones
I have a patient that needs implants in the mandible in sites, 18, 19, 29 and 30. She has received 70K rads of radiation therapy to the mandible. What kind of success or failure should I expect with the implants? What are your experiences with implants in these radiated sites? What precautions should I take?

Implants in Irridiated Patients
This is a complex issue and there is no answer cast in stone. It depends on dosage and the chemo meds used. Sometimes you can use hyperbearic Oxygen and sometimes you cannot. Consult with the patients oncologist and read on yourself or refer to an OMFS.
