I use mostly internals but I do think that externals have a slight advantage in surface area because the deep threads can be carried all the way to the top of the implant. By design, the threads cannot be as deep on internal implants because the walls would be too thin in the area the abutment fits down into. This difference is probably negligible if the implant is 10mm or longer but the increased surface area may make a difference in the shorter implants. My .02.
