Does anyone have any experience with Osteocel? I have recently went to a lecture by Dr. Mcallister, but have not been able to find many articles on it????
I was impressed with uncovering my first osteocel case. The material when I used it was easy to handle. The results 6 months later where better then expected. I am going to use this material again.
I have done 5 cases using osteocel. The material handles well. You need to have a freezer as it is sent cold. I use it with mesh mostly. The cases results have been remarkable.
I let the cases heal about 6 months and the bone is solid. I used it in both vertical and horizontal aug cases.
Osteocel looks to me like a very promising material. Whether it will replace blocks or other grafts depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you place Osteocel and use a tenting screw and a membrane or use a Ti reinforced membrane you can achieve very nice horizontal and vertical augmentation
One advantage of Osteocel is the concentration of stem cells in the product. Osteocel had 50k cells/cc and the newest version is reported to have up to 250k cells/cc. It is osteoconductive, inductive and promotive.
It does have a high price tag.
I used it on a couple of ridges and it was very nice. I was able to achieve similiar augmentation to that of a block graft 4-5mm.

More feedback to come.
Osteocel: I get robust bone with this.
I have done 15 case using the material. Not only do you get robust bone growth, the soft tissue healing is nothing less that remarkable.
