Using a Round trephine to obtain cores to be used as blocks: Opinions on this technique
Tue, 05/25/2010 - 05:08 — Dr. Musin Silver
I am looking for opinions on using a Round trephine to obtain cores to be used as blocks grafts. I read an article recently on obtaining cores from the chin using an audi or olympic design an then using those cores fixated in a defect. I am asking what people experience with this technique? Are the cores hard to fixate? Opinions and experience appreciated.

Abstract
The use of the mandibular symphysis for harvesting intraoral autografts in implant reconstruction cases is based on the ample supply of donor material, the proximity to the recipient site, and the ease of access to the tissue. This article discusses the technique of successful bone harvesting from the mandibular symphysis. As with other harvesting techniques, morbidity can occur. This report demonstrates a low morbidity rate and presents guidelines to help accomplish this.
Trephines to obtain core blocks.
This is a nice technique. You can go to the chin and do the olympic or Audi design. You can obtain quite a bit of bone.
There are also company's that sell kits for just this purpose.
